Love this guy. Even though I’m an adult and I’ve never met him, I consider him a role model. Notice his appreciation for everyone who worked on the show with him and his insistence that we all remember the people behind the scenes in our own lives, making our clothes, foods, homes, cleaning our schools, etc. The Acknowledgements section of his book was the same way. (I love reading Acknowledgements sections, so I know a good one when I read it!) This kind of appreciation and un-self-centered-ness is a sign of true maturity and compassion and it is a model we would all do well to follow.

When Charlie auditioned, he arrived wearing yellow rain boots. Here we were, looking for Cary Grant, and this guy arrives dressed like Elmer Fudd. The boots were so dorky that we actually wrote them into the show once, just so Fran Fine could say “You’re always so GQ, when did you become the Gorton’s fisherman?”
